Each piece of fused glass is the result of a complicated process and takes many hours of work. Specially formulated glass is carefully hand-cut and shaped using a grinder. The resulting pieces are cleaned then the pattern is laid out in a kiln and fused together at temperatures of up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit. The heating and cooling process is precisely monitored to prevent cracks and breakage and takes 16 hours to complete. If the final piece is intended to have a bowl or dish shape. The resulting flat piece of glass is placed on a ceramic mold, returned to the kiln and heated to between 1200 and 1325 degrees F. As the glass warms it slumps into the mold and takes on the mold’s shape.
